Gov. Brad Little on Wednesday (March 23) signed SB1309, the bill that makes it illegal for abortions after a heartbeat is detected, typically six weeks. The bill, which passed both the House and Senate by large margins, provides mechanisms to bring civil action against doctors who perform abortions after a heartbeat is detected.
“I remain committed to protecting the lives of pre-born babies and strongly encourage the Legislature to promptly rectify any unintended consequences with this legislation to ensure the state sufficiently protects the interests of victims of sexual assault,” Gov. Little said in his transmittal letter to the Legislature.
Right to Life of Idaho commended the Governor and legislators. "The real win today is for the thousands of Idaho babies whose lives will be saved by this legislation," said Kerry Uhlenkott, legislative coordinator for Right to Life of Idaho. "We admire them for speaking up for Idaho's unborn babies who have no voice but ours."
