POSITION SUMMARY:
The Safe Environment & Victim Assistant Coordinator works collaboratively with clergy, parish and school leaders and other diocesan staff in protecting the Church’s most important asset, its people. Specifically, the Safe Environment & Victim Assistant Coordinator provides consultation, support, training, program development and resources to those engaged in safe environment training and has a key role in audit compliance to the USCCB Charter.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Must have a working knowledge of and a strong commitment to the mission of the Diocese of Boise and be a practicing Roman Catholic in full communion with the Church.
Does not espouse any doctrine inconsistent with the teachings of the Roman Catholic Church.
Working knowledge of the systems, structures, and teachings of the Catholic Church.
Knowledge of business correspondence procedures.
Knowledge of all clerical duties, typing and word processing, and of filing systems and methods.
Excellent written, verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
Demonstrated organizational skills.
Skill in operating various computer programs such as Microsoft Word, Access, Excel, Outlook, Publisher and PowerPoint desirable. Experience in working with publishing software and web-based applications also desirable.
Demonstrated ability in working with computerized database systems.
Ability to accurately and quickly type various documents including correspondence, minutes, agendas, mailing labels, and related documents.
Ability to establish and rearrange priorities for timely completion of assignments within the broader goals of the Diocesan office.
Ability to work well under pressure and maintain an extremely high level of confidentiality at all times.
Ability to work with extremely sensitive material and situations.
Ability to work well with co-workers, supervisors, and the general public.
Ability to collaborate with all Diocesan employees, i.e. Clergy, Parish Life Directors, Pastoral Associates, Parish staff, School Principals, Teachers, etc. located throughout the state.
Ability and willingness to travel throughout the Diocese and work irregular hours as dictated to accomplish the responsibilities of the position.
Other tasks, projects, duties assigned or delegated by the Chancellor/Director of Child, Youth, and Adult Protection.
Ability to meet qualifications of diocesan safe environment policies and successfully pass a criminal background check.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Compiles and prepares material for the annual USCCB audit of the Safe Environment Program.
Track background check work and maintain VIRTUS database.
Maintains the database used for recordkeeping and tracking compliance with diocesan programs, policies and initiatives. Generate spreadsheet reports for parishes and schools regarding employee and volunteer compliance.
Assesses the adequacy of current safe environment programs and background checking procedures.
Researches available training programs and background checking procedures and makes recommendations for changes and additions to current and future diocesan programs and procedures.
Monitors screening procedures for employees and volunteers, assuring that all have had the necessary training and background checks.
Assists in the review and redraft of policies related to child, youth and adult protection issues.
Provides periodic local safe environment training for employees and volunteers and is able to work with parish trainers in their programs for children, youth, parents, volunteers and employees.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education and Experience
High school diploma with undergraduate education preferred.
At least five (5) years successful experience in secretarial or clerical positions.
Familiarity with diocesan Safe Environment programs highly desirable.
Familiarity with issues that might arise in parish or school settings in the Catholic Church.
Familiarity with the Latino culture and able to converse in Spanish.
Additional Qualifications
Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.
Excellent interpersonal skills; must be a self-starter, well-organized and a team player.
Experiences with people must demonstrate cooperation, compassion and caring.
