Kitchen Manager

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Prepare, cook, and serve meals in accordance with school menus, nutrition guidelines, and food safety standards.
  • Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of kitchen, food preparation areas, serving lines, storage areas, and dining spaces.
  • Clean and sanitize kitchen equipment, utensils, appliances, sinks, counters, walls, and floors.
  • Maintain appropriate inventory levels of food, supplies, and cleaning products; order and restock items as needed.
  • Receive, inspect, and properly store food deliveries according to health and safety regulations.
  • Monitor food quality, portion control, and presentation to ensure consistency and student satisfaction.
  • Operate, clean, and maintain kitchen equipment and appliances.
  • Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal health department regulations and Sacred Heart Catholic School policies.
  • Assist with menu planning, special dietary accommodations, and food preparation for school lunch.
  • Deep clean kitchen and food service areas during school breaks, including equipment detailing and storage organization.
  • Train, supervise, and support kitchen staff and volunteers as needed.
  • Attend and actively participate in required training classes, including food safety and certification programs.
  • Maintain required records such as temperature logs, inventory, safety checklists, and cleaning schedules.
  • Coordinate with vendors and suppliers to ensure timely delivery and quality of food and supplies.
  • Performs all work duties and activities in accordance with Sacred Heart Catholic School policies, procedures, and safety practices.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

Ability to:

  • Interact with students, staff, faculty, administration, parents, vendors, and volunteers effectively and professionally.
  • Communicate effectively both orally and in writing (includes email and Google Drive).
  • Work with little supervision while managing daily kitchen operations.
  • Follow written and oral instructions accurately.
  • Manage vendors and contractors effectively related to food service and kitchen operations.
  • Advise and actively participate in school committees related to nutrition, wellness, or food service.
  • Multi-task effectively and in a timely manner in a fast-paced environment.
  • Meet deadlines and service schedules consistently.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with school staff, students, contractors, vendors, and others associated with job duties.

Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • One year of cleaning experience is preferred.
  • Any equivalent combination of experience and training provides the knowledge and abilities necessary to perform the work.
  • Must be able to pass a background check.
  • The candidate must be able to adhere to the mission of Sacred Heart and to the teachings of the Catholic church.

Terms of Employment:

Length of Employment: This is August-May position

Schedule: 20-30 hours weekly, schedule to be determined

Salary: $18-20/hour DOE

Benefits: To be determined depending on schedule
