Camp Director, John Paul II Camp

The primary role of the Camp Director is to oversee and manage John Paul II Camp providing leadership, vision and direction to all programs. This position is responsible for the care, safety, protection and supervision of the camp environments, staff, volunteers and participants and for various administrative duties requiring excellent organization and communication skills and is responsible for managing a variety of camp functions in collaboration with the Director of Diocesan Special Projects (DDSP).

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Working knowledge of the systems, structures, and teachings of the Catholic Church.
  • Recognize and support the mission, policies and practices of the Catholic Church and Diocese of Boise.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and interpersonal effectiveness at all levels in the organization and across cultures.
  • Demonstrated leadership and organizational ability.
  • Skills and desire for collaboration, together with ability to take initiative and work independently.
  • Ability to assist in the development and management of camp policies, rules and regulations, with ability to evaluate and modify if needed.
  • Ability to document processes and perform recordkeeping.
  • Ability to maintain annual budget for supplies, stipends, equipment, etc.
  • Maintain confidentiality and appropriate personal and professional boundaries.
  • Ability to meet qualifications of diocesan safe environment policies and successfully pass a criminal background check.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Works collaboratively with camp stakeholders to determine camp requirements and annual budget.
  • Presents camp information to prospective campers, when required.
  • Responsible for hiring, training, and managing camp employees and volunteers.
  • At all times demonstrate professional responsibility in enforcing camp policies and regulations.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable Diocese of Boise Personnel Policies and Practices, and ensure employees/volunteers are appropriately managed and evaluated; provide/coordinate education and training to employees and volunteers as necessary.
  • Coordinate the facilities, including buildings and grounds.
  • Oversees camp schedule, accommodations, and meals, as well as ensuring the wellbeing of the campers.
  • Ability to manage budgets and monitor expenses.
  • Ensures safe practices and a healthy camp environment.
  • Manages and maintains required records and documentation.
  • Works collaboratively with diocesan staff (i.e., camp assistant and digital coordinator) to ensure reservations and website are accurate and up-to-date.
  • Other tasks, projects, duties assigned or delegated by the DDSP.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education and Experience

  • Demonstrable experience as a camp director managing similarly structured camps.
  • Education and/or training in business management, leadership, recreation, tourism or other related area or equivalent combination of education and experience.

 

Additional Qualifications

  • Preferred Roman Catholic.
  • Strong leadership skills.
  • Must be a self-starter, well-organized and a team player.
  • Ability to delegate when appropriate.
  • Ability to utilize technology relative to the requirements of this position.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.
